  • Jail Breaking

Unlocking your iPhone will allow you to use the service provider OF YOUR CHOICE. You'll no longer be chained to a specific cell carrier. Jailbreaking lets you download and use free and cheap iPhone apps from 100% legal, 3rd-party marketplaces such as Cydia Store and Icy. You'll no longer be forced to get all your apps from iTunes!
  • Rooting Android

Rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system that shipped with your device to grant you complete control over it. This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android if you desire.

  • Flashing CDMA Phone

If you have a CDMA cell phone from Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, Qwest, US Cellular, Cricket, or any other CDMA service provider it can be unlocked and flashed to work with any other CDMA service provider, as long as the service provider you would like to use the phone with is willing to activate it on their network.

Tablet Software Services & Repairs

In our technologically advanced world, the idea of portable information and data at our finger tips is not only intriguing; it has become almost become necessary for certain customers. While technology giants have continued to work swiftly to get their customers the most reliable device for on-the-go information, the tablet is one such device that has taken the market by storm. With an array of manufacturers from Apple to Samsung to Google, the tablet is a device that can help you stay connected to both business and personal contacts easier, can help you prepare a presentation while on the go, or can provide you with a platform to share photos and videos with your family and friends. While this device is a non-stop entertainment factor in many people’s lives, it also has its share of issues, which is why it is always handy to keep a close eye on a reliable company that offers tablet repair services.

Top 5 Most Common Tablet Issues

Every individual customer has different demands of their technological devices, especially when it comes to tablets. While most tablet manufacturers have attempted to create tablets that are as easily accessible for each individual, it is no surprise that technological demands grow daily. As tablet manufacturers rush to meet every customer’s needs, there are a few problems that slip through the cracks, including both hardware and software problems. At times, a tablet’s software can fall short of a customer’s needs, or there will be a reoccurring problem with a glitch or hiccup in the system. On the other hand, almost every device is susceptible to physical damage and unfortunately as much as manufacturers attempt to counter this problem, there is no 100% guarantee that you won’t drop your device or get water on it. Let’s take a look at some common tablet problems.

Screen Repair

Tablets were manufactured to allow customers an on-the-go data accessibility experience. With a portable device that is less weighty as a laptop but more efficient than a smart phone, it is understandable that the device will have its fair share of damage, especially when it comes to the screen. Either when transporting a tablet or when in use, there are a multitude of scenarios that can occur to cause your tablet screen some physical damage. At times if it is in your bag or purse, it can get scratched or if it is in your hand, your tablet is prone to being dropped, or if lying around it can be stepped on. If your screen has been cracked, you will definitely need to have it replaced. If there is no immediate physical damage, you may need to check and make sure the device is turning on. You may also need to check if the touch screen is working. If not, you most definitely want to take your device to a professional to have the screen replaced.

COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • The device's screen is cracked
  • The device is not turning on
  • The device's touch screen is not responding

LCD Repair

While the screen of your tablet may seem like one component, there are actually two parts to the screen. The first part is the glass screen, also known as a digitizer, and underneath the glass is an LCD screen which displays all your tablet’s images. If you have dropped your tablet or stepped on it and it is turning on but the display is grainy, or dim, or has lines running across it, you have damaged your LCD. LCD repair is just as complicated, if not more than glass replacement, so it is a good idea to have your device checked out by professionals who can easily diagnose the problem and replace the damaged part of your tablet.

COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • The device’s display is grainy
  • The device’s display is dim
  • The device’s display has lines running across it

Water Damage

Water damage is one of the most common problems when it comes to tablet repair. Whether you drop your tablet into a puddle or drop coffee onto your tablet, your device is prone to water damage, especially if the liquid seeps into the device or battery. Symptoms of water damage are not always immediate, unless you find that you cannot turn your device on after the incident. At times water can seep into your device and can rust, causing your device to malfunction. If water seeps into your battery, then it is at risk of being permanently damaged. It is always a good idea to turn your device off and take out the battery before taking your tablet to a professional who can quickly assess the damage and diagnose the problem. If not dealt with immediately, your device can be prone to internal damage, overheating, etc.

COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • The device is not turning on
  • The device is heating up

Battery Malfunction

When it comes to high-powered devices such as tablets, battery life is always a problem. With your tablets continuously running programs as well as Wi-Fi, GPS, etc, it is always a good idea to check out your device’s battery life. Chances are, with time and usage, a tablet’s battery starts to drain quicker. At times people think keeping the device plugged in all the time or recharging it often is a solution, but it can actually damage your device or create more issues. If you feel that the battery is not performing up to standard, it is a good idea to take your tablet to some professionals. Often times you may have to replace the battery or you may find that the device is not charging properly. Therefore it’s always more helpful to get the problem diagnosed before trying to fix it yourself.

COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • The device needs to be charged all the time
  • The device’s battery is not charging at all

Data Loss

Since a tablet is a portable device, there is probably a lot of personal information stored on it which is important and valuable. If your tablet suffers physical damage, malfunctions, or has a glitch, your first concern may be all the data stored on your device. It is extremely important to back up your data or go to professionals who can help you retrieve lost data. It is not always necessary that if your device malfunctions that you will lose your data. Seek help from professional services before you lose any information that is important to you.

COMMON SYMPTOMS:

  • Device does not turn on
  • Screen is blank

Tablet Software Modifications and Repairs aka Rooting & Roming

Why You Need To Root Your Tablet

Many people hesitate to root their android tablet, thinking it’s good enough with the stock operating system, or are afraid of bricking their device.  The advantages of a rooted tablet versus a totally stock one are many.

First, what is rooting? Basically, it is a process that gives you access to change or even replace the operating system, while allowing applications to run that need certain system and hardware rights to function. Once root is gained, a program called Superuser is usually installed, that controls which apps get root rights.  One example of an app requiring root is the popular Titanium Backup; without root access, you can’t run it. There are several file managers, like Root Explorer, which also need root access. With those managers, you can change permissions while having access to the entire file system. Apps which control over clocking, like SetCPU, don’t work without root.  ClockWorkMod, the custom recovery program, requires root.  And there are many other useful programs that also need root to run.

So why don’t tablets come rooted brand new?  Manufacturers want to have control over how their device is used.  They load it up with all kinds of bloatware that 1)slows down the OS and 2)makes you use the applications they want you to use.  Sure, you can download what you want from the market, and use that app instead.  But the system apps will still be there, often running in the background.  With memory space a concern for tablets, this also becomes a problem.  This is one reason why developers create custom roms, which again aren’t possible to install without root.

Custom roms offer many advantages over stock roms.  Generally they come with a minimal amount of installed apps, allowing the user to decide what he/she wants on their tablet.  The creators of these roms try to optimize performance, while incorporating features they believe users want.  The great thing is that with several roms available for a device, you can pick and choose the rom that suits your wants and needs.  Usually, manufacturers are pretty slow to issue updates for their OS’s.  Custom rom developers receive feedback from users and can then make changes in a relatively short time.

Other Type of Services We Offer

We unlock all phones!

What is unlocking?

Phones are generally sold by wireless carriers for much less than their actual retail value. The wireless carriers often subsidize the cost of the phone with the expectation that they can recover more than this amount throughout the subscriber's contract. They will try to make sure that the phone can only be used on their particular network, therefore locks the phone's software to their wireless network.

Unlocking means clearing the phone's software setting so that the phone can be used on any network. After your phone is unlocked, you can use it with any GSM service provider.
(*frequency band may vary on makes and models)

What is Jail breaking?

Technical Definition of Jailbreak:
The iPhone, iPod touch & iPad hack that allow users to gain access to the entire UNIX file system. In UNIX terms, this refers to changing the root of the directory tree to.

Understandable Definition of Jailbreak:
A hack that gains access to areas of the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad that users aren't supposed to mess with. Typically, this is an immediate prelude to either installing cool programs, unlocking the handset for use with another cellular network, or both.
Through jail breaking, you are able to add additional applications to your iDevice. It allows you to do so by adding an application called Cydia to your iDevice. It also allows modding (changing) of your iDevice application icons, wallpaper, dock, status bar, chat bubbles, weather backgrounds, and keyboard...etc.

Disclaimer: Jail breaking voids your warranty.

What Is Rooting?

Let me clarify what rooting is. Getting root or rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system that shipped with your device to grant you complete control over it.
This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android.
The name root comes from the Linux operating system world, where the most privileged user on the system (otherwise known as Administrator on Windows) is called root.

Contrary to popular belief, su stands for "switch user" and not "superuser."
Another program called Superuser Permissions is usually bundled with all root methods. It gives you a chance to approve or deny requests from any application that wants to utilize root. Superuser Permissions essentially replaces the conventional root password with a simple Approve/Deny prompt, which isn't as secure as having a password, but is far more convenient on a mobile device.

Benefits of Rooting

Full Control over Android

You have access to alter any system files, use themes, change boot images, delete annoying stock apps, such as Sprint's NFL Mobile live and Nascar Sprint Cup Mobile, and other various native applications that might drive you crazy (Footprints, Voice Dialer, etc).

Save Space on Your Phone

While Google did introduce Apps2SD (moving parts of applications to external storage) officially in the Froyo update, it remains up to developers to manually add support for it in their apps. Because of that, it's still fairly easy to overflow your internal storage and run out of space.

What is phone flashing?

CDMA Cell Phone Unlocking and Flashing: If you have a CDMA cell phone from Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, Qwest, US Cellular, Cricket, or any other CDMA service provider it can be unlocked and flashed to work with any other CDMA service provider, as long as the service provider you would like to use the phone with is willing to activate it on their network. If you are not sure if your cell phone is a CDMA cell phone you can find out by removing the battery and looking for a sim card. If the phone does not have a sim card then it is most likely a CDMA cell phone. If it does have a sim card then it can only be unlocked to work with a compatible sim card. The most common cdma flashing service is Cricket flash since Cricket will accept any CDMA cell phone without any questions. Our CDMA unlock and flash can unlock Sprint cell phones and flash them to Cricket or any other CDMA service provider that will activate another service providers CDMA phone.

Android Flashing Software: Our Android unlocking software / Android flash software will unlock and flash all of the latest Android cell phones to Cricket, Metro PCS, Verizon, Sprint, and other CDMA carriers with Android data enabled. Our software makes it very simple to enable data on Android cell phone in just a couple minutes. We can reprovision any Android phone to work with the CDMA service provider of your choice with Android internet enabled.

Switch Your Service Provider & Keep Your Phone: We can unlock, flash, and reprogram most CDMA cell phones including Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, Qwest, USA 1 Rate, US Cellular, Metro PCS & Cricket! This will allow you to switch service providers and use the same phone! Your phone book, ring tones, and other settings in the phone will stay the same. The only difference will be that it will work with your new carrier! Now you can keep your phone number and your cell phone! We offer a Mail-In Service and Remote Service for CDMA unlocking / flashing / reprogramming. Most CDMA cell phones can be unlocked and flashed at your home or place of business. Most CDMA cell phones can be unlocked and flashed remotely by a Phone-Doctor technician. Cell phone flashing will enable your phone to connect to the wireless CDMA network of your choice and as long as the service provider is willing to activate the esn it will work on their network. Flashing cell phone for any CDMA network requires connection to your computer in order to rewrite the PRL file to enable it to connect to your specified CDMA service provider. Some phones must also have the SPC (Service Provider Code) changed to 000000 or unlocked before the PRL file can be programmed to the phone provider. Some phones can also be fully flashed to make them work with internet and other firmware controlled features. To find out if there is a full cell phone flash for your phone please give contact your local store or ask Remote Squad. Most cellular phones can only be unlocked and flashed to work for phone calls and text messaging.

Important Notice about Activation after CDMA Flashing / CDMA Unlock: You are responsible fully to check with service provider prior to flashing the phone to make sure they will activate your ESN or MEID number. Phone-Doctor will not be held responsible for your failure to make sure your phone can be activated prior to CDMA unlock service. Some phones use MEID instead of ESN number. You are fully responsible for conversion from MEID or Hex to ESN. You will not receive a refund for MEID to ESN conversion issues, service provider not accepting your ESN number, service provider not adding your phone to their inventory, or any other activation related issue. Absolutely no refunds will be issued on CDMA flash service for any of these reasons. We will not change ESN number. Changing ESN number is illegal, and we do not do anything that is not legal.

About CDMA Unlocking & Reprogramming: Unlike GSM cell phones, unlocking the phone is not enough to make a CDMA cell phone work because instead of using a sim card, the data used to connect to a network is stored internally. Some CDMA cell phone providers put a lock on their phone to block it from being programmed. This is referred to as a SPC. (Service Provider Code) The first step to reprogramming a phone is determining if it has a 6 digit SPC lock code set on it or not. If it does have an SPC lock then it must be read and changed to 000000 before it can be reprogrammed. After a CDMA phone is unlocked or if it doesn't have an SPC lock it can be reprogrammed by writing a new PRL file. (Preferred Roaming List) Once the PRL file is written to the phone it will connect to the new service provider's customer service line when attempting a call. The last step is to have the phone activated and programmed with the phone number. This is known as NAM programming. In some cases the phone NAM will be programmed automatically when the ESN is activated by the service provider or by dialing *228. In other cases, the NAM has to be programmed manually by entering a special code to get to the section of the settings menu where the phone number and other required information can be entered. (##000000## - Samsung A900) You may need to ask your new service provider for the MIN number if the phone does not accept automatic over the air programming by dialing *228.

Notice about CDMA Unlocking & Flashing Service: Phone book contacts, scheduler, and other user presets will not be erased. Your current service provider firmware will remain. Calls & text messaging only will be enabled by reprogram, unless otherwise specified. Internet, picture messaging, and other firmware controlled features will not work unless otherwise stated. Please check with the service provider to make sure they will activate your cell phones esn prior to purchase. Smart Device Doctors are not responsible in any way for a service provider not activating your phone and you will not receive a refund for this reason. By purchasing any CDMA flash service from Smart Device Doctors you agree to these terms and conditions. This service is to unlock and flash 1 cdma cell phone.
